Portfolio/Exhibition Course
Have your creative hand held through the rigours of the process required to produce your first photo exhibition
The aim of this course is to help students produce a photographic portfolio of exhibition quality. Participants are encouraged to explore in detail various photographic themes through project-based work. Students will produce an exhibition of their work at the end of the course.
As well as the core photographic theory of camera control, lighting and photoshop techniques, students are taken on a visual journey of contemporary and historic photographic practice to aid the development of their own photographic style.
Along with the intense weekly tutorials and lectures participants meet with the tutor in one-on-one sessions throughout to discuss progress on their own individual portfolios. Students are expected to put in at least 4 to 6 hours of extra time per week shooting and processing.
Please note that this course is not suitable for those new to Digital SLR's and Computer Image Processing. Ideally you will have been taking quality photographs for at least a year, should have at least 2 projects under your beld and will be familiar with the workings of Photoshop.
The course meets every 2nd Wednesday, except where relevant photo/art exhibitions are identified. When this happens we expect to attend the exhibitions on the previous or following Saturday in place of the night class. A discussion of the art/photo exhibition will also take place immediately after.
On the first night of the courseyou will be asked you to choose a project to work on over the following 4 months. We will also discuss a "Plan B" with you as well. Please bear in mind that techniques and concepts that are completely new to you at the start of the course are unlikely to result in 10 top quality shots at the end of the course. You're best sticking with what you know. Another piece of advice is to consider subjects/locations that allow you to revisit on a regular basis. Relying on a week long trip to the Andes in the middle of the course is also unlikely to result in 10 top notch shots.
The groups own exhibition takes place approximately 2 months after the end of the course.
